Scout Scarf Day : 1st August 2014

The idea of "World Scout Scarf Day" on August 1 is that all active and former Scouts are requested to wear their Scout scarf in public to make the "Spirit of Scouting" visible: Once a Scout - Always a Scout !

In 2011 the day coincided with the World Jamboree in Sweden which was a perfect opportunity to show the close bond to all the Scouts attending.

Of course, the scarf is only a symbol but a strong symbol for the Scout Promise and for our mission to leave the world as a bit better a place than we had found it.

Our scarf colours are shown above for all to see. We wonder how many other Scouts wear the same colours. Please email us and tell us your Scout Group name and we will add it to the detail below with your website address.

23 May 2013: The number of rhinos poached in South Africa since the beginning of 2014 now stands at 350. The Kruger National Park continues to bear the brunt of the poaching, with 242 rhinos having been killed in the National Park since the beginning of 2014. In the North West province a total of 29 rhinos have been poached, while 28 have been poached in Limpopo, 33 in KwaZulu-Natal and 17 in Mpumalanga. The Gauteng province lost its first rhino to poaching this year during the past week.

RHINO SA Project is a youth-driven, outreach and awareness initiative aimed at educating today's youth about the unmitigated and ongoing slaughter of South Africa's rhinos, and, thereby actively involving the youth of South Africa in Rhino Conservation and Heritage Preservation. 

The Green Wall of SEE Project - Rhino SA Project are touching the lives of 2000 to 4000 pupils a week through their education and awareness program.

Attached above is a picture that was coloured in by one of our Scouts who attends the school at which this program was launched. The Scout gave the picture to Hathi (me, the name the Cubs in our Group call me) as he knew I love pictures of all wild animals.

Gauteng KonTiki 2014

Our Troop participated in the annual Gauteng Scouting event, KonTiki.  This year the theme was "KonTiki Goes Green" thus protecting our world. The event was held at the Scouting Camp Site, Arrowe Park in Benoni which is on the shore of Homestead Lake.

New Scouts South Africa website

SCOUTS South Africa launched the 1st phase of the development of the new national website.

 

The aim of the website is to reinforce the fresh, dynamic and innovative brand and to cater for the needs of many audiences.

Creative Paper Art/Craft

"You are Limitless" says newly inaugurated Chief Scout Sibusiso Vilane

On the 15^th of March 2014 Sibusiso Vilane was inaugurated as the new Chief Scout of SCOUTS South Africa in the presence of nearly 500 youths and invited guests in Nelspruit Mpumalanga. 

When addressing the Cubs and Scouts after he was inaugurated he stated “I pride myself in serving you. My message to you is never to limit yourself. You are Limitless! Strive for great heights and remember that it is not about where you were born, where you live or what you become, do or have. It’s about what legacy you want to leave behind.  

Remember that with determination, hard work and perseverance there is nothing you cannot achieve! I encourage all of you to take all the opportunities that the Scout Movement is giving you and make them count!” Read his inaugural address here
